Malnutrition Due To Cancer
Monday, May 3rd, 2010Chemotherapy has contribution to the occurrence of malnutrition with various causes such as nausea, vomiting, stomatitis or gastrointestinal disorders and reduced of appetite. The things above in addition to affecting the nutritional status can also affect the result of chemotherapy treatment. Side effects that occurred related to the dose, treatment time, type of medication and individual response.
Radiotherapy. Radiotherapy is also contributing to the occurrence of malnutrition on cancer patients. Weight of malnutrition which occurs is determined by the place of radiation, radiation dose and duration. Some causes of changes in nutritional status due to radiation: – Radiation to the head: to cause nausea, vomiting. – Radiation to the head / neck: cause mucositis, difficulty to swallowed, difficulty to open mouth – Radiation thorax: difficulty to swallowed, oesofagitis. – Radiation abdomen / pelvis: causes diarrhea, gastritis, nausea, vomiting.
