Varicose veins are veins that swell beneath bluish skin, usually on the inside of the foot, calf back, or at the knee. Sore legs may feel heavy, slightly swollen knee and the skin over the varicose veins dry and itchy.
The problem is more common in women and is usually passed down in families. Pregnancy, constipation, being overweight, or standing for long periods may increase the risk.
